Sawyer was never his real name. James Ford stole it from the con man who destroyed his family — a whole life lived under another man's name. Twenty years later, Josh Holloway plays another man borrowing a killer's name. The film is Flint, and it's his very first leading Western role. The part fits him like a glove.

Based on Louis L'Amour's 1960 novel, Flint stars Holloway as James Kettleman, a cold East Coast businessman who returns to the New Mexico frontier and takes the name Flint — the killer who raised him. He's pulled into a violent range war over land, cattle and guns. Ryan Whitaker writes and directs. Holloway and Beau L'Amour, the author's son, spent nearly two decades trying to bring the book to screen, and Holloway produces as well as stars. "To play this incredible role and help bring it to the screen as a producer makes this project even more special," he said.

Sarah Gadon plays rancher Nancy Kennigan, who pushes Kettleman to reconsider the legacy he wants to leave behind. The cast also includes Mike Vogel, Dianna Agron, Max Martini and Charles Esten. Filming has wrapped and the movie is now eyeing festival submissions. "I just finished a western called Flint. You know that book? Flint's great. So we just did the movie, and we'll see where it goes," Holloway said in March 2026, adding he wants to keep working in the genre. The Lost thread is clean: Sawyer was the island's cowboy — the Southern-drawled con man with a hidden code. After his Yellowstone villain, the Georgia-born Holloway finally has a real Western. Like Sawyer, Flint built himself on someone else's name. And like Sawyer, he just might choose to become better in the end.
