Yunjin Kim, who played Sun-Hwa Kwon on Lost, won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature on March 15, 2026 as the voice of Celine in KPop Demon Hunters. It's the first Academy Award attached to a member of the Lost main cast. The Netflix film — directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans — also took home Best Original Song for "Golden," the first K-pop track to win an Oscar. Kang and co-director Michelle Wong became the first women of Korean descent to win in the animated feature category.
Celine is a former K-pop idol turned demon hunter who raises Rumi after her mother's death. Kim provides the speaking voice; Tony Award winner Lea Salonga handles the singing. The character is the film's emotional anchor — the keeper of memory, the one who saw the threat coming, the one training the next generation. The role of transmission, exactly where Kim sits in the industry today.

The sequel was officially announced on March 12, 2026 — three days before the Oscar win. Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans return as writer-directors. Sony Pictures Animation produces. The original cast, Yunjin Kim included, will return. No release date yet. After six seasons as Sun on Lost, a 2006 Screen Actors Guild Award, and decades navigating between Korean and American cinema, Kim now has an Oscar attached to her name — for voicing a Korean woman shaping the next generation of fighters. Sun chose to leave the island with Jin under the submarine. Kim chose to stay in the business. And she won.
