Jack has Chinese tattoos on his arm. Nobody knows what they mean. Thailand, flashback. Jack meets Achara. A woman who "sees" people. She knows who they really are. Jack insists she tattoo him.

She gives in. The marks she makes mean: "He walks among us, but he is not one of us." Jack gets beaten up for forcing her hand. Stranger. Everywhere. Always.

On the island, Juliet stands trial before the Others. She killed one of theirs. The sentence: a brand with hot iron. Jack intervenes. He negotiates. Ben accepts. Juliet is spared. But marked. Literally.
