Michael's raft catches fire. Everyone blames Jin. He doesn't speak English. He can't defend himself. Sun intervenes. In English. Shock. Jin didn't know she could speak it.
In flashback, we see Jin before. A simple man. In love. He asks Sun's father for her hand. The price: working for him. Jin accepts. He doesn't know yet what he's getting into.
