Duster canceled on Max — Sawyer and J.J. Abrams reunited, then split again

DEADLINE

Josh Holloway (Sawyer in Lost) and J.J. Abrams reunited for the first time since Lost for Duster, a 1970s crime thriller on Max. The pitch from Abrams: "You're a wheel man for the mafia in 1972." Holloway said yes immediately. The show premiered May 15, 2025, with Rachel Hilson co-starring as the first Black female FBI agent. Critics loved it — 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, 83% audience score. Not enough. Max canceled Duster after one season on July 9, 2025. Holloway had openly described his "hard seven years" after Lost during press, and told the Hollywood Reporter he's open to a Lost reboot: "Why not?"

The series — written by Kirsten Beyer and David Mack, from a story by Nicholas Meyer (writer-director of The Wrath of Khan) — covers the 18 years Khan spent in exile on Ceti Alpha V, between his abandonment by Kirk and his revenge in Star Trek II. Wrenn Schmidt co-stars as Lt. Marla McGivers. Andrews set one rule: "I didn't want to do an impression of Ricardo, but I certainly wanted to respect what he had done." On Lost's legacy, he kept it simple: "The first season stands up at any time."

Terry O'Quinn has a Lost revival pitch — and it's exactly right

SCREEN RANT

In an August 2025 interview with Screen Rant tied to Resident Alien Season 4 (the show's final season), Terry O'Quinn pitched a deceptively simple vision for a Lost revival. His idea: all the characters walk out of the back of the church from the series finale — but now they're much older, and they have to ask, "What happened? What do we do now?" The pitch came after he was asked about possibly reuniting with Lost alum Harold Perrineau on FROM. Lost creators Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have previously said they have no interest in revisiting the show — but O'Quinn's pitch has fans thinking otherwise.
