Dead Is Dead

Ben wakes up in the present. Locke is alive. Standing. Smiling. Ben is surprised. He killed him with his own hands. How is this possible? Locke wants answers. So does Ben.

Flashback. Young Ben. Richard entrusts him with a baby. Alex. Stolen from Rousseau. "Kill the mother," Widmore orders. Ben refuses. He keeps the baby. He raises her. Alex becomes his daughter. The only person he ever truly loved.

Ben goes down beneath the temple. To be judged. By the smoke monster. The ground opens. Black smoke surrounds him. Images. Memories. Alex appears. "I know you're planning something against Locke. If you hurt him, I will destroy you." Ben trembles. For the first time. He promises to obey Locke. Except this Locke isn't Locke.
